HP Designjet GL/2 Accessory Card or Formatter Board
The HP Designjet 500, HP Designjet 510, and the HP Designjet 800 all have what are called a GL/2 Accessory Card or Formatter Board installed. Both terms refer to the same part. These board provided advance CAD features and expanded memory. It is not uncommon for them to become defective and need replaced.
The feedback I get from customers is that the main cause of the error is the printer is left on continuously. Resulting in a power surge thru the line that corrupts the ROM chip. Make sure to check your ground to neutral reading on your outlets. Faulty wiring will result in more errors.
HP Designjet 05:10 Error Code
If you are getting a 05:10 Error Code -- You Must Replace Your GL/2 Accessory Card or Formatter Board. A 05:10 error on the front panel of the printer indicates a formatter card failure. This issue usually does not require on-site service, as the formatter card is a user-replaceable part. It is a simple fix. The card is located on the back side nearest the power cable plug. There are two expansion cards. One is the network card. The GL/2 card is labeled and needs to be replaced. Simply unscrew it and slide out of the slot.
Part Numbering System
HP has many part numbers for the same part. They like to issue a new part number for a new lot being released for consumption. Here is a breakdown of popular part numbers. Designjet 510 model has three different part numbers: Designjet 510 CH336-60001 Designjet 510 CH336-67001 Designjet 510 CH336-80001 Designjet 500 C7772A
Please confirm that you have a Designjet 500 printer. The 500 GL/2 Card will not work in a HP Designjet 510 printer. I have had several customers with a Designjet 510 purchase the 500 GL/2 Card. The 500 GL/2 Card does not work in their printer. This will caused delays with exchanging the 500 card for the 510 card.
HP Designjet 800 has nearly ten different part numbers.

Recommended action:
Turn the printer off and unplug the power cable from the back of the printer.
Remove the HP-GL/2 accessory card and re-install the HP-GL/2 accessory card.

System Error: 61:05
A related error is System Error: 61:05. A 61:05 is a formatter card with the sniffles before it becomes a cold (05:10) and needs replaced.

Thanks Tom for helping me resolve the blue screen of death on my HP Designjet T520 – 36" printer that had been out of use for a number of years. He was very helpful on the phone, and shipped the main PCA board out very quickly. The removal video on YouTube was also very helpful in getting this fixed.

OK – I just ordered a formatter board from Tom. It won’t be in for several days. I’m not sure if it’s the only problem I have with my printer, but at least I was able to talk to a REAL PERSON. He figured out what was wrong, told me what I needed, and got the part ordered. As I have said, there may be other problems, but at least someone tried to help me – not some AI decision tree program from HP that was of no benefit. By the way, I had a maintenance contract with HP which I have never used, but found out that they cancelled it three months ago. I wasted $64.95 a month for three years.
I am glad that there are still human beings out there who are still willing to talk to other human beings and help us solve problems.

What a great find this site was. We had a Designjet that needed a formatter board and drive and we could not find one, new or used and no local repair shops would touch it. I found this site and called Tom and the part we need is on it’s way. Highly recommend Tom.

i have a 15 year old designjet 500 plotter. It would not power up. The repair company in my area told me they don’t make parts for this plotter anymore. I found Toms website on the internet and ordered a power supply. We installed the power supply and the plotter turned on. Now we had a 11.11 error code. Tom told me to replace the ribbon cables. We ordered and replaced the ribbon cables. The printer works fine. I am very happy with the parts and support from Tom.

Thank you, Tom! Your suggestion of a replacement formatter card was all we required to get our HP DesignJet 510 Plotter back online. A much more feasible alternative to purchase of a new plotter. If it acts up again, I’ll know exactly who to contact for assistance!

Have an HP T-120 that’s only 3 years old. Got the blue screen of death (code 805DFF31) and after google searching for help, found Tom had the BEST info (HP was NO help at all, go figure!). Had to replace the main PCA board. Had a quick question after opening up the plotter to access the board. Emailed him on Sunday night. Had my answer at 8:45 the next morning. Ordered the part and it was at my door 2 days later. Took an hour to install and I’m back in business. Tom is AWESOME!

Installed printheads yesterday on 11-4-18. I noticed that they are recycled and look used. Nevertheless, they appear to be working fine so far. Couldn’t afford genuine new hp printheads right now. Thank You Again.
